For convenience of conference participants, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has arranged a one-day tour to the World Heritage Gassho Style Village of Gokayama on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Since Gokayama is a very popular destination for lots of Japanese and foreign tourists, it is recommended that participants interested in exploring a historical and beautiful site in the vicinity of Toyama City join this tour. The following are some details.
In December 1995, Shirakawa-go’s Ogi-machi Village in Gifu Prefecture as well as both Ainokura and Suganuma Villages in Toyama Prefecture’s Gokayama were included in the catalog of World Heritage Sites under the name of “The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama -Traditional Houses in the Gassho Style-” at the 19th UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Berlin, Germany. Of the six conditions necessary for recognition as a World Heritage Site, the Gassho Style villages were deemed especially consistent with “iv) having structure, architecture, and/or scenery representative of a period of historical importance” and “v) a traditional village or region exhibiting a particular culture that is at risk of disappearing”.
The fee for this one-day tour is JPY 13,500. As of August 5, 2026, we are in the process of updating the payment system, that will be ready for your booking on August 7, 2026. For those of you interested in joining the Gokayama tour, please go to the registration & payment site (deadline: August 16, 2026). We will confirm reservation on a first-come, first-serve basis. Since Gokayama is very popular for lots of Japanese and foreign tourists, it is strongly recommended that you book at your earliest convenience.

The LOC has arranged an attractive program for accompanying persons, which contains a one-day tour to Gokayama on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 (see the above description). In order to join the accompanying person’s program, it is necessary to complete accompanying person’s registration. This can be done by visiting the website at registration & payment and pay the accompanying person registration fee (JPY 18,500 per person). The fee includes welcome reception, coffee breaks, and Gokayama tour. Due to a limited number of tickets, it is suggested to register as early as possible.
