The International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications, ICEAA, has been held in Turin, Italy, on a biennial basis since 1989; in 2010, the first “offshore” edition of ICEAA was successfully launched in Sydney, Australia. On behalf of the local organizing committee, I extend a very warm South African welcome to you for the 2012 edition of the conference, being held in Cape Town!
As of 2011, the IEEE-APS Topical Conference on Antennas and Propagation in Wireless Communications (IEEE APWC) is being held jointly with ICEAA. Additionally, a new event, the Electromagnetic Environment and Interference Symposium (an URSI Commission E initiative), is being incorporated into ICEAA 2012. The scope of the combined ICEAA/IEEE APWC/Commission E event encompasses a broad range of topics in the field of antennas and engineering electromagnetics in general.
Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town referred to as the “mother city” in South Africa, has a long and fascinating history. The conference is being held in the very centre of Cape Town, offering delegates and accompanying persons easy access to the city’s many attractions. We trust that the city, dominated by the imposing backdrop of Table Mountain, will provide a memorable location for ICEAA 2012.
On the technical side, South Africa has a vibrant electromagnetic engineering research community, with cutting-edge research conducted at a number of universities, including the Universities of Cape Town, Pretoria and Stellenbosch. At present, South Africa is building the MeerKAT radio telescope in the Karoo and is on the final short list to host the massive, internationally funded, Square Kilometre Array project. This technical activity will be reflected in some of the special sessions.
A varied social program is being planned, offering ample opportunity for informal discussions among delegates, and providing them with the opportunity to sample local cuisine and experience South African culture and hospitality. Additionally, links are provided to a number of pre- and post-conference tours in South and Southern Africa, offered by local operators.
We’ve got a mountain of a table and invite you to book your seat as a delegate!
Kind regards
PROF DAVID DAVIDSON
